In Prayerful Support of Our Community

During this time of strife in our beloved City of Angels, Loyola Marymount University relies on the wisdom of its founding communities: the Jesuit mission of forming persons for and with others; the vision of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary that all people should have life, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange’s insistence on the love of the dear neighbor without distinction.

Our mission compels us to recognize the dignity of every person, especially those who are vulnerable or displaced – the people who cannot flourish in their home countries, the refugees and asylum seekers – all who, like the Holy Family, seek shelter, safety, and welcome in a foreign land.

We recognize that many of our students, faculty, and staff who are themselves immigrants or come from immigrant families are experiencing pain and uncertainty. We are guided by our faith to accompany those who are suffering and to pray for peace in times of tension and division. We lament when pain and divisiveness overshadow compassion, dialogue, and understanding.

We lift up the efforts of all who gather in a spirit of unity and prayer – people of many faiths and no faith, LMU students, faculty, and staff – and those whose actions support the vulnerable, uplift the suffering, and pursue peace and healing in our city.

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles invites all Catholics and people of good will to pray for our nation, and especially for our immigrant and local community during this tumultuous time. LMU Campus Ministry will be hosting two Taizé-inspired prayer services for peace today, June 11, from 11 a.m. – noon and from 4- 5 p.m. This prayer offers an opportunity to pray deeply for peace. The calming, quiet chants of Taizé offer a contrast to the chaos wrought throughout Los Angeles; voices lifting in prayer the voices of those who have been silenced. Taizé is ecumenical. All are welcome. Check Campus Ministry for more information. There will also be daily Mass in the Jesuit Community at 12:05 p.m.
