Loyola Marymount University has joined the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) and higher education leaders across the country in signing A Call for Constructive Engagement, a statement urging the protection of academic freedom and opposing political overreach in American higher education.
President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., and President-Elect Thomas Poon, Ph.D., signed the statement on behalf of LMU, reinforcing the university’s commitment to the core principles of open inquiry, institutional autonomy, and the pursuit of truth.
As a Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount university, LMU affirms the power of education to advance human dignity, foster civic responsibility, and prepare students to lead lives of purpose—ideals that depend on an educational environment free from undue constraints on expression and inquiry.
LMU stands with our peers in affirming that colleges and universities must remain spaces where students, faculty, and staff can engage freely across ideas and perspectives, and where education serves the common good and the flourishing of democracy.
