California Senate Bill 98 Establishes Immigration-Enforcement Notification Requirement

Senate Bill 98 requires California colleges and universities to promptly notify their campus communities of any confirmed immigration enforcement activity.

Published on:

On September 22, 2025, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 98, a new California law requiring colleges and universities to notify all students, faculty, staff, and other campus community members when immigration enforcement activity is confirmed on campus.

In compliance with California Senate Bill 98, LMU is required to promptly inform the campus community if immigration enforcement activity is confirmed on or near university property.

LMU reminds our community of the university’s established protocols for responding to interactions with external law enforcement and government agencies, including federal entities.

If you encounter or become aware of external law enforcement on our campuses, please immediately contact the LMU Department of Public Safety (DPS).

  • For the Westchester Campus, direct them to DPS at Foley Annex or call 310.338.2893 or 222 from any campus landline phone.
  • LMU Loyola Law School Campus, direct them to DPS at the main entrance of the parking structure or call 213.736.1121 or x1121.

DPS will verify the agency’s credentials and ensure that appropriate university procedures are followed. Please note that LMU only discloses information when required by a valid court order or in response to an imminent and credible public safety threat.

LMU affirms its commitment to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all who learn, live, and work on our campus.
